It’s the 50th anniversary of the AWP Annual Conference and Bookfair, so you can bet a lot of exciting things are in store as more than ten-thousand writers, academics, MFA programs, publishing professionals, and students descend on our nation’s capital. Hippocampus Magazine is thrilled to be part of the action — and we have our own celebrating to do. More on that below.

We created this Hippocampus Magazine at AWP page to keep you up to date on where you can find us, and our friends, during this annual literary event. We’ll cover:

  • Meet us at the Bookfair
  • Stop by during a book signing
  • Attend our off-site event: a book launch party!
  • See us on a panel
  • Find our friends – were to find fellow CNF publications and panels/events featuring our friends

Meet us at the Bookfair

We’ll be at Table 715 during scheduled Bookfair hours. Stop by to chat, take some literature, check out our new anthology, or attend a signing (see next heading!). Meeting our readers and contributors (and new friends!), for us, is the best part of AWP.

Attend Our Off-site Event: Selected Memories Book Launch

  • Friday, Feb. 10, 7:30 p.m.

Join us at Capital Yacht Club — a short ride away from the conference hotel — for a celebration of our books’ divisions first title, “Selected Memories: Five Years of Hippocampus Magazine.” Hear from a few of the collections’ 33 contributors, enjoy snacks and a cash bar, and meet your CNF peers. Admission is free, but since space is limited, registration is required. Sign up here. Readings begin at 8 p.m.

GETTING THERE FROM CONFERENCE HOTEL

  • Uber or taxi – go south in 7th until you hit the water.
  • Metro: The Marriott Marquee is next to the Mount Vernon Square 7th Street Convention Center metro stop, the green line. Take that toward Brance Ave, Va.; get off at Waterfront Southwest; the Yacht Club is about three blocks away.

See Hippocampus on a Panel

Donna Talarico, founder and publisher, will be part of a panel called “Starting Small: Grassroots Workshops and Conferences,” where she’ll talk about HippoCamp: A Conference for Creative Nonfiction. Also on the panel: Tyler McMahon, Shawna Yang Ryan, Dave Housely, and Mark Brazaitis. (Saturday at 9 a.m., Marquis Salon 5.)
